The MacPorts Project

The MacPorts Project's main goal is to provide an easy way to install various open-source software products on the Darwin OS family, with Mac OS X being the primary target. There are currently over 8000 ports available, with more being added on a regular basis.

Nullsoft Scriptable Install System

Nullsoft Scriptable Install System is a tool for creating quick and user-friendly installers for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It is a script-based system that adds a very small overhead, only 34 KB. It features LZMA compression, support for multiple languages, and an easy-to-use plugins system

IzPack

IzPack is a one-stop solution for packaging, distributing and deploying applications. It is fully cross-platform and generates a single installer. As such, it is an alternative to native solutions such as platform-specific installers and package managers. IzPack-generated installers only require a Java virtual machine to run.

GNU Stow

GNU Stow is a symlink farm manager which takes distinct packages of software and/or data located in separate directories on the filesystem, and makes them appear to be installed in the same place. For example, /usr/local/bin could contain symlinks to files within /usr/local/stow/emacs/bin ... [More] , /usr/local/stow/perl/bin etc., and likewise recursively for any other subdirectories such as .../share, .../man, and so on. This is particularly useful for keeping track of system-wide and per-user installations of software built from source, but can also facilitate a more controlled approach to management of configuration files in the user's home directory, especially when coupled with version control systems. A GUI Frontend to IzPack built with Java Swing to create an installer for your application. Installers are cross-platform, multi-language and very versatile to fit your needs.

Update Center 2 - UpdateTool

Update Center 2 is a 2nd generation image management tool to be used by Glassfish V3 and other Sun-sponsored infrastructure software projects. The name for the graphical tool in this release is updatetool. This tool leverages the Image Packaging System (IPS) from the OpenSolaris project.

Listaller

Listaller provides an user-friendly way to install 3rd-party applications on Linux. It features a software setup package format (IPK-packages), which works on all Linux distributions and provides tools to make your application-binaries work on every distro. One of Listaller's strengths is it's close integration with AppStream and PackageKit. Seven Update

Seven Update is an open source update platform for windows. It allows an easy way to keep your software updated. It offers automatic update notification and installation. The SDK allows developers to easily use Seven Update, without the need for code. This project has been discontinued.
