X.Org

X.Org provides an open source implementation of the network-transparent X Window System, as well as working on the standard itself. The development work is being done as part of the freedesktop.org community, sponsored by the X.Org Foundation.

GNOME

The GNOME project provides two things: The GNOME desktop environment, an intuitive and attractive desktop for users, and the GNOME development platform, an extensive framework for building applications that integrate into the rest of the desktop.

Wine

Wine is an implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. It does not require Microsoft Windows, but can use native Windows DLLs if they are available. It provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86 and x86_64 based Unixes.

Xfce (Core)

Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. This Ohloh project only contains the core components of Xfce!

The KDE libraries, basis of KDE and used by many open source projects. They are based on Qt, Trolltech's cross-platform toolkit, and run on Linux, BSDs, and other Unices, as well as Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Licensed under GNU LGPL, they may be used by open source and proprietary applications.

Psi

Psi is a leading instant messaging / real-time communications client for the Jabber network (using the XMPP protocol). Fluxbox is a lightweight and highly configurable window manager with pwm-like tabs.

XEmacs

XEmacs is a highly customizable open source text editor and application development system. It is protected under the GNU Public License and related to other versions of Emacs, in particular GNU Emacs. Its emphasis is on modern graphical user interface support and an open software development model, similar to Linux.

LXDE

LXDE is a free desktop environment for Unix and other POSIX compliant platforms, such as Linux or BSD. The name LXDE stands for "Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment".
