The main idea behind the project is to create a working component between libpurple and Mozilla's xul runtime environment. This will later allow for rapid development & multi-platform use of custom xul interfaces and extensions.

In fact, this project is a university project and, as we needed some server to enable us to work concurrently, we decided to host it here in google code site. The software's aim is to help people who are not used to compressing their photos before sending them by email. Consequently, the ... [More] interface has to be as simple as possible so that the user won't have to answer 42 questions before getting his photo compressed. To make it a little more tricky, we decided to use Mozilla technologies (XUL/XPConnect/XPCOM) and we're trying to bind them with xnview and 7zip libraries. [Less]

For those who know HTML and client-side Javascript, it's not much of a stretch to learn Mozilla XUL and XPCOM. Combining this with the xulrunner runtime application from Mozilla, you can create fast, robust standalone or client/server applications for Linux, Mac, Windows, or any OS that Mozilla ... [More] Firefox runs upon. And you can do it in record turnaround time. The applications can also support AJAX, rich edit controls, SQL database calls, processes and threads, sockets, and much other functionality. If you're a newbie to programming, and know HTML and client-side Javascript, you should give this worth a look. And even if you're a novice or expert, this is also worth a look because it can speed up your time to deliver applications, especially for standalone applications on Linux. I developed this sample because I felt that the only real way to develop Linux applications sort of halfway rapidly was to use Glade, Python, and PyGTK, but that was frustrating because some parts of PyGTK are either undocumented, poorly documented, or just don't work as advertised. So when I found out about XUL and xulrunner from Mozilla, I was naturally delighted to see something I could use to knock out standalone applications on Linux fairly rapidly. Requires xulrunner, which you can get from Mozilla.com. [Less]

A new paradigm, WAB(Web Application Browser) Gimbalz aims to abstract operating system and to provide a better solution for accessing web pages and application. Why Gimbalz? -Web browser UI is not meant for accessing WebApps. -Web browser doesn't provide synchronization among WebApps. ... [More] -Web browsers depend heavily on desktop applications. -Web browsers are only good for static pages. Gimbalz provides the solution to the above problems and much more. Gimbalz is a mix of operating system and browser features, enables WebApps to dock, provides better UI for handling WebApps, synchronization among WebApps through API, central repository storage option, offline usage, customization. Even though web application has grown in strength and are sure to replace desktop counterparts, we need to understand that web os kind of solution is still immature and browser is not the conducive platform to develop one such solution. Gimbalz aims to be a desktop application which stores its present state in central repository, so its anywhere, anytime accessible solution. You can access your profile to have your working platform instantly. Portableapps.com kind of solution is also a viable option. Semantic based scripts in gimbalz will enable better synchronization. Gimbalz may prove to be the grand mashup enabler. We have a seizable community of firefox developers, extension and theme writers. If we can all work together and build Gimbalz, its gonna provide a radically new genre of application. Lets invade desktops and gadgets to create a true web experience. I hope to see lot of ipod like applications running gimbalz on top of it in future. [Less]

Goal: create a kiosk browser in XUL for OSU OSL Summer of Code project. While various implementations of Gecko-related kiosks are floating around the web, all are missing a critical piece--operating system kiosk API integration for preventing OS access while inside the browser.
